Can I connect musical instruments to my old imac?

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

I have a old blue imac, the only inputs on the back I can find that might be usefull is a Mic in slot.

The musical instruments I have are a electric guitar, drum set, microphone, keyboard with midi in an out.

I want to connect any of these or all to my imac, but how? Are there adapters I need to buy?

You need this

There is also a MIDI box you can use for connecting multiple instruments to Garageband

2 Roland E09 Keyboard Arranger Demo Nevada Music UKhttp://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/Keyboards_Pianos/Synths/sc1643/p4444.aspx Demo of the Roland E09 arranger keyboard available in black or white.

The Roland E-09 raises the quality standard bar for entry-level arrangers, there are very few keyboards on the market that posses so many high quality features at such an affordable price. With 61 full size, velocity sensitive keys, 64 voice polyphony and full MIDI capability (GM2 & GS), the E-09 sits nicely in a recording/computer based set-up and is equally at home as a standard home keyboard. Features include over 50 effects (including reverb and chorus), a metronome and a pitch bend/modulation lever.

Classical instrumentalists? What do you think of the electric guitar as a musical instrument?

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

The electric guitar is generally considered a pop music instrument and is used mainly for pop music, however, there are many electric guitarists who perform classical pieces are are heavily influenced by classical musicians particularly the violinists Paganini and Vivaldi.

What are some of your thoughts about this instrument, its sound and whether it is suited to classical music?

Once one accepts the theremin and ondes martenot as classical instruments, there’s no reason in principle why an electric guitar cannot be.

However, to the best of my knowledge, very little classical music has been written for it, and while I’m pretty sure Berlioz would have liked it (particularly the volume!) the typical sound of an electric guitar doesn’t fit into the natural sound of most classical music.
