Question by Undefined: What kind of electrical guitar/amp should I get?
I am a beginner at guitar but am taking a guitar class in high school and im currently fairly decent for a beginner. Im asking yourself what types of more affordable electric guitars I could get, and amps?? Ive accomplished some study and im not clueless about guitars and amps but I will need feedback on what you think is the finest. I went on futureshop.ca (its canada’s very best get) and below musical instruments there are some sort of low cost SOLO guitars which do appeal to me but I in no way heard of them ahead of. I know about squire and that would be my leading pick but they have disappeared from the websight like two days ago. (they’re probably in shop although.) And amps. I like the Washburn bad dog, spider III and IV and the marchall mg10. I just do not know which 1 you assume is the best and i would like feedback on what (less costly) guitars and amps you assume is excellent.

Properly, all that looks like junk to me. Plus I’m guessing that’s Canadian dollars, so Idk. Here’s the point. If you have a limited amount of income, just get what ever Squire you can afford. They are sort of junky too, but they are much better than most inexpensive guitars and at least the high quality is somewhat controlled. On these other off-brands, who knows wtf sort of quality you’re going to get??? Then go to a music shop or on-line and get a little Roland Cube… whichever wattage you can afford. That will be a great set-up for you to discover with. After you have learned to sufficiently play your instrument, then you can move up and get much better stuff.

Selling and buying music gears have never been easier. With the Internet it has been turned into a simple matter of a few mouse clicks. Now you have the option to view sites entirely dedicated to selling and buying of used music gears ranging from guitars and drums to microphones and speakers.

Generally you have to fill up a form in order to sell or buy a specific gear in such classifieds. There are two types of classified services available. Paid classifieds and free ones. Both have their respective terms and conditions that you have to abide by to utilize the services.

It is also easy to locate the instrument you want in classifieds. One can search for what one is looking for by a range of categories. Some of the popular categories include guitars, keyboards, drums or percussion, basses, bass amps, recording and audio, etc. to name a few.

Music Gear for The Composer

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Music composers of the latest generation are no longer limited to just a keyboard, mixer, or specialty synthesizer to compose. Today a variety of gears is available in the market for composers to compose and program their music piece. However, as a composer of music one should remember that the music gear does not produce the music, you do.

The latest music gear for composers that are available on the market are friendlier than ever and easier to play. In modern keyboards the composer will find hundreds, even thousands of instruments all tweaked and ready for their specific applications. The music composer that is looking for drum beats can easily choose from a variety of Techno, rhythm and blues, Hip Hop, Country, Orchestral. They are all stored there in the sound bank ready on the press of GO.

Earlier in the days when the musicians used midi, they had to work very hard to get these sounds. Today the modern sound gears not only make the work easier but also produce great sound quality. Today, the gears are quieter and possess no hisses and hums. At the same time they usually have good support online with free patches and even operating systems which can be easily downloaded by the musician. The latest music gear is more reliable than the older gear.

For the first time, musicians can stop worrying about power supplies dying and battery backed Ram failing. Most manufacturers now produce gears that go through the process of more than two decades of research and development. The effort really shows.

However, composers should remember that high end gears require high end backup gear. Those musicians who are tight on the budget should keep that in mind. If you have invested in an expensive condenser microphone you cannot get away with a low quality pre-amp.

However, the recent few years have brought such tremendous advances to sound quality that the heavy line between pro gear and home gear is getting thinner. To get to higher sound quality you must have great preamps, converters, monitors, good microphones and an excellent sounding room.

As a music composer you can also face input output disasters with your music gear that can leave you irritated. You can avoid all these by just knowing what you have and where you actually are having the problem.

The next step is to identify your goals. If you have a two input soundcard and want to record the whole band where everyone has a track,. as a music composer you may think it is not possible. You go ahead and invest in a twenty-four track mixer only to realize that it too has only two inputs only.

The point is to simply observe what you are paying for and know your gears well. You may have a keyboard with a sampler in-built. Be aware of the features that your gears have.

Everything You Need To Know About Classical Music Gear

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Classical music is a broad term that usually refers to music produced in, or rooted in the traditions of, Western art, or ecclesiastical and concert music, in the period from the 9th century to the 21st century. The central norms of this tradition became codified between 1550 and 1900, which is known as the common practice period.

Classic music is still played by many of today’s musicians. European classical music is largely distinguished from many other non-European and popular musical forms by its system of staff notation, in use since about the 16th century.

Classical and popular music are often distinguished by their choice of instruments. The instruments used in classical music were mostly invented before the middle of the 19th century. Some of them had been designed even earlier, and codified in the 18th and 19th centuries. They consist of the instruments found in an orchestra, together with a few other solo instruments such as the piano, harp, accordion, and organ.

The great majority of classical music gear fall into six major categories – bowed strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, keyboard, and the guitar family. The first four form the basis of the modern symphony orchestra.

The classical guitar was originally a Spanish-derived, six-stringed instrument. It is played using a plectrum or the finger-nails, with frets set into the fingerboard. Popular music tends to use amplification for both the six-stringed instruments and the four-string bass guitar. The guitar family gradually supplanted the lute which had come to prominence during the Renaissance.

The piano is widely used in Western music for solo performance, chamber music, and accompaniment. It is also very popular as an aid to composing and rehearsal. Although not portable and often expensive, the piano’s versatility and ubiquity have made it one of the most familiar musical instruments.

The piano is sometimes classified as both a percussion and a string instrument. In the period from about 1790 to 1860, during the Mozart-era, piano underwent tremendous changes, which led to the modern form of the instrument. Early technological progress owed much to the English firm of Broadwood, which already had a reputation for the splendor and powerful tone of its harpsichords.

The accordion is played by compression and expansion of a bellows, which generates air flow across reeds. A keyboard or buttons control which reeds receive air flow and therefore determine the tones produced. The accordion’s basic form was invented in Berlin in 1822 by Friedrich Buschmann. The accordion is one of several European inventions of the early 19th century that used free reeds driven by a bellows.

The violin is a bowed string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. It is the smallest and highest-pitched member of the family of string instruments, which also include the viola and cello. The oldest documented violin to have four strings, like the modern violin, was made in 1555.

Significant changes occurred in the shape and structure of the violin in the 18th century, particularly in the length and angle of the neck, as well as in the bass bar. Most of the old violins have undergone these modifications, and hence are in a significantly different shape than their forerunners, undoubtedlys with differences in sound and response.

Evolution of Different Types of Music Gear

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Music is a form of expression consisting of sound, rhythm, harmony, etc. The definition of music varies according to culture and social backgrounds. It can be divided into various categories. Music gear is the whole set of equipment like sound equipment, stage speakers, recording equipment, DJ equipment, microphones, speakers, etc. Here we try to explore the evolution of different types of music gear.

Amplifier is a device that converts a signal with a small amount of energy into a similar signal with a larger amount of energy. Popularly we call it electronic amplifier particularly in audio applications.

An audio amplifier is usually used to amplify signals such as music and speech. Instrument amplifier is a kind of audio amplifier that is designed to be used with an electric guitar, an electric bass, or an electronic keyboard.

Traditional amplifiers come with a clean, warm sound and a sharp treble roll-off at 5 kHz. High power amplifiers were developed between 1960 and 1970. However, by 1980, smaller instrument amplifiers with lower wattage ratings were developed that could be switched on and off more quickly.

Microphone is another important music gear. It is actually an audio device that can convert sound into electrical signals. The primitive microphones were called transmitters. The first commercial microphone was the carbon microphone designed in 1876 by the great inventor Thomas Edison. After that a lot of technological improvement has been witnessed in the microphones with the emergence of condenser, capacitor, electrostatic, wireless and shotgun microphones.

Recording equipment like mixing console, multi-track recorder, microphones, loudspeakers, compressors, and equalizers are also types of music gear. During 1890 to 1930, phonograph horns and direct to disk cutting process were used for master recordings.

With the invention of microphones, electronic amplifiers, the mixing disk and loudspeakers, electronic recording equipment became high tech. Now the studios have started using digital recording equipment that are supported by latest upgraded versions of computer and software.

We all know that a person who selects, plays, and mixes music for the audience is called a DJ or disc jockey. The equipment that are used by a DJ are vinyl records, compact discs, computer media files, mixer with a cross fader, headphones and microphones. The history of these music gear is quite interesting. The phonograph cylinder, invented by Thomas Alva Edison was the first that was used as a DJ equipment.

The DJ culture probably started in the mid 1800 and has grown tremendously popular and later gave birth to concepts like discotheques and nightclubs. In the year 2001, i-pod by Apple entered into the list of DJ equipment because of the convenience of improved technology that allows the DJ to carry a wide variety of music in one single and small device. In fact in the year 2006 the Disk Jockey concept celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Like the history of human civilization, the history of various music gear is also equally interesting. And that is because, whether it is music gear or musical instruments, both make sure that the tune of human lives and minds always remains melodious and sweet.
